HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN CANVAS PHOTOGRAPHY BACKGROUND for UNDER $200

SUPPLIES

Canvas fabric 84 inch wide (price per yard) $13

(I recommend at least 5 yards or more if you’d like to have floor length)

Household paint (nothing fancy) $45

Push Broom $19

Paint Tray $5

Long Paint Roller Handle $20

Paint Roller Covers $8

Bucket For Water $12

STEPS

The first thing I did was lay out the fabric on to a flat surface that can handle getting wet. I chose the garage as my location. I picked the paint color I wanted to use and started applying it using a roller to the top half of the canvas. Once I got the blue color down, I moved on to the purple. To add more dimension & help with color transition I added some black to the edges. I then poured A LOT of water all over the canvas, and I used a broom to push the water around to blend out all of the colors. Pouring the water on, is the most crucial step to achieving the final result.

Once this process was complete. I picked up the canvas and hung it up to dry. Hanging it by clipping the edges only.

THE RESULT

What you’re looking at here is the reverse side of the canvas we painted. The water allowed the paint to seep through the canvas fabric and create this very organic effect.
